‘Gareth’s work tells stories, whether a whole story, as in his comic strips, or a glimpse of a narrative, he leaves questions unanswered so the story can continue in the mind of the viewer.

The theme of the work tends to be alienation or loneliness, and the fantasy this breeds. Gareth’s series of Robot-Man paintings focuses on a character who seems to be alienated from the rest of society by his being different, but may in fact have imposed his exile on himself. He may even be the same as everyone else and just Imagine that he is not.

Gareth’s most recent work uses the mask as a theme. The characters in these paintings wear homemade masks, and crude cardboard and parcel tape bodies, as if to inhabit a kind of imaginary space whilst in the safety of their own home. Behind closed doors.

The style of his work is deliberately simple and unexpressive. For Gareth the emotional power of each piece should come through in the story being told rather than through its style. With this in mind, he has adopted a technique usually used in traditional cel animation. He paints on the back of a sheet of clear perspex. When viewed from the front, the paint appears totally smooth and flat. This method is ideal for achieving the crisp black outlines and areas of clean, flat colour that Gareth wants.

Gareth’s prices start at approx. £150 for a Limited Edition Print and go up to approx. £2000 for a 124cm x 104cm hand painted acrylic on perspex image framed.

A Selection Gareths's works can now be purchased as limited edition prints.
