Take Art In Your Stride This Summer
ArtMap MCR is turning the city into a gallery and everyone is invited.
ArtMap MCR is the launch of a new exciting annual project for the Manchester based art agency Comme Ca Art.
The aim of ArtMap MCR is to introduce new and established artists to people who wouldn’t otherwise visit a gallery or museum. It is designed to be accessible, and illustrate how art enriches and brings new meaning to places and to people.
The printed ArtMap is a detailed guide to locations displaying art around the city and the artists involved. The map is designed so that anyone interested in art can follow the map at their own pace.
The exhibitions run throughout August and September and all updates about works for sale and the limited edition print shop will be published online. Many of the locations exhibiting art works have WiFi access so information can be accessed on the go!
Over the past thirteen years Comme Ca Art has organized shows for a number of galleries and exhibition venues on a local and international scale. Our initiatives range from private to public art projects that have pioneered the use of alternative venues amongst more traditional art spaces as a way to showcase new artists and their works in accessible spaces. Comme Ca Art supports local artists and encourages people to enjoy art as part of their everyday lives.
'Use some doodles to map your way around Manchester'
'Well, not doodles exactly, but full blown pieces of artwork, scattered around the cafes, shopping centres and bars of Central Manchester. An ambitious undertaking from the people at Comme Ca Art, the ArtMap Mcr consists of around twenty small collections of work by local artists being displayed in unconvential areas, turning the likes of Matt & Phreds, the Triangle Shopping Centre and every city centre Starbucks into an impromptu gallery. In order to find them, Comme Ca have produced a special map which can be downloaded here.
It's a great idea, and one which will simultaneous bring a bit of sparkle and variety to the venues and a bit of locally produced art to unsuspecting coffee consumers. There's even some that can be seen through wi-fi if you're sat with your laptop in one of the chosen venues, but the levels of technology and what-not involved are too much for me. Either way, all the artworks are now on display, and will be until the end of September. Metro will be dragging itself around the city streets soon to check out some of these roving creations, and will report back on our findings soon.'
