Rebecca Davy is a Manchester based artist, graduating in 2003 with a BA (hons) Fine art painting degree from Manchester Metropolitan University. Her exhibitions include Northern Graduates 03 at the New Academy & Curwen in London, and later took part in the ‘Young Gods’ show at the Clapham art Gallery where her work was described as “eerie and strangely appealing.”

Since completing her MA Fine Art in 2006, she has taken part in exhibitions abroad, ’Charabanc’ in Helsinki, Finland, and has also featured in the Liverpool Biennial Independents Exhibition “Round One Way”. Rebecca also took part in the Sefton Open in 2007.

Rebecca’s primary subject is painting, the seductiveness and sensuousness of pushing paint on canvas.   The imagery she uses, whether they are people, places or objects are chosen in order for her to arrange a composition that is full of luminosity, light, and colour, often with a hint of the macabre.  The “Lollipops (2007)” are dumped as though from the aftermath of a child’s birthday party. The artist is fascinated with 16th century Dutch still lives of leftovers, and like many of those paintings this also features a skull; a reminder of mortality amid the plenty.

Upcoming exhibitions include a solo show at Sheffield University Library from the 5th-25th April.
