Comme Ca Art presents
Vincent James at The Bridgewater Hall
Part of ArtMap Manchester 2008
August and September 2008

Vincent James - 'Ground Control to Major Trombone' at the Bridgewater Hall.

Animation at the Bridgewater Hall by Vincent James - 'Jet Set Trash'.
Vincent James' collages, sculptures, animations and installations are based on objects appropriated from cartoons. In these works props from different cartoon worlds collide in surprising interactions from the strange to the surreal.
Objects originally only glimpsed in a few frames of a cartoon, become frozen in time, locked in three-dimensional space or trapped in endless loops of animation.
A cast of objects’ that previously existed as little more than background items or props in the narrative and are now free to star in new plots and scenarios populates James work.
Since completing an MA at Goldsmiths in 1999 Vincent James has shown both
nationally and internationally including exhibitions in New York, Los
Angeles and Soa Paulo. Recent exhibitions include Bath Time and Tide, a 7.7
metre wide double-sided vinyl sticker spanning 5 windows commissioned for
Comme Ca Art in Manchester and work in the group show The Eclectic Eye at
the Contemporary Art Centre in New Orleans. His work is also part of the
Frederick R Weisman Art Foundation Collection, California.
