Jane Morley is a Manchester based painter who has exhibited throughout the UK. Her new collection of work is entitled “Every Prospect Pleases” and this is her first solo show with Comme Ca Art.

Jane’s work continues to look at the concept of an Arcadian landscape. Having previously looked at this concept in an urban context she now considers it within a rural one. Inspired by the 17th century paintings of idealized landscapes and of how Nature was viewed Jane’s paintings utilize the movement and dynamism of Modernist composition within her work.

“Finding comfort and security in our urban environment and beauty in our architectural structures my work imagines a harmonious relationship between urban design and our rural spaces.

The inclusion of a man-made structure in such an environment focuses the attention and heightens our awareness of the landscape. The scenes depicted are idealized rather than real, the distinction between garden and countryside deliberately ambiguous.” Jane Morley

Her work makes reference to the idea of a cultivated wilderness, a place where design and Nature meet, and Nature can be improved upon. She is interested in her own experience of the countryside, a place to visit and view rather than truly engage with. Anonymous and devoid of people her paintings retain that sense of detachment.
