TAKE ART IN YOUR STRIDE THIS SUMMER

Comme Ca Showcases Local Artists Citywide

Comme Ca Art has created a series of important arts initiatives in Manchester. From the successful exhibitions ‘Art in the Bar’, show casing the UK’s most exhilarating artists, Comme Ca Art branched out into ‘Art in the Department Store’,’ Art in the Hotel’, ‘Art in the Restaurant’ and more recently ‘Art in the Loft’, Comme Ca Art has gone from strength to strength in introducing new and established artists to the general public. Our most recent ambition is to transform the city of Manchester into an open gallery titled ArtMap – Manchester.

“My ambition for Comme Ca Art is to bring original artworks into every home in the UK. It’s a huge ambition to achieve but artwork should truly be available for everybody to enjoy on a daily basis.” Claire Turner, Director.

Artmap Manchester

We aim to transform the city into a gallery that’s open to everyone by installing artworks in a variety of spaces across the city. From viewing office windows from the street to encountering them in public access buildings down to using shop window displays-the idea is that the art will be available to view in a wide variety of places for anyone to see.

We are looking for support for this local arts initiative that draws attention to using artworks as a tool to making our living spaces more enjoyable. We aim to match pieces of art to every kind of environment and particular companies- using a wide range of businesses across the city centre to showcase the variety that our artists have to offer.

  • The Artworks used will be from a selection of locally sourced artists that live and work in and around Manchester, or feature Manchester as their inspiration.
  • The ArtMap is a visual map of the city that highlights each location that features one of the artworks. The ArtMap is accessible through the website and also as a printable version, and distributed as a leaflet containing further information about the scheme.
  • Users are free to navigate the city as they wish- using the map as a reference point to visiting whatever they are near, whenever it suits their pace. Featuring locations with unfettered visual access-such as coffee shops, store windows and office spaces-the artworks can be viewed conveniently by everyone at almost anytime.

What the Project would Involve

The Artworks will be carefully considered to fit the individual environment. The only other requirement is that information about the artist and the piece is hung on a wall plate next to the artwork. Comme Ca’s name will be featured as the founder and organiser of the project.

  • We are responsible for the hanging and maintenance of the artworks.
  • We ensure the artworks are relative to the environment and history of the location. The Artists are predominantly locally based and produce work relative to area, and are sourced from Comme Ca’s database of over 1,000 artists that have working relationships with the company.
  • The exhibition is initially proposed to run from mid July to mid September across a number of locations in the city centre.
  • The main information point is a website set up with the ‘ArtMap’ and all the artists and details of the work will be available to view from there. There will also be a leaflet version printed with an overview of the scheme, which will be distributed through various press releases and locations.
  • The project will be advertised through a variety of media outputs and press releases, as with general arts activities in Manchester.

Although this is predominately a cultural project, the participation of non-affiliated companies is essential. We believe the support of locations such as yours would help illustrate the muliti-dimensional use for art - and would give us the opportunity to showcase a wide variety of artists. Filling empty spaces with art also attracts attention to those unused spaces that would otherwise go unnoticed.

It is our belief that the aesthetic benefits of an artwork have the potential to transform any pre-conceived ideas about a space. This in turn will generate more foot traffic around the city and in your locations, which would demonstrate to the wider community that your organisation/business is committed and willing to invest in local initiatives.  For this reason we invite you to support this local arts initiative, and believe it is an opportunity to get your company noticed as part of this exciting initiative for artists in Manchester.
