‘Intimate Timeline’ is an exhibition of photographic work by two recent graduates of the North, Steve Longbottom and Fran Halsall. The collections of work by these two talented photographers explore how the use of light and time are fundamental to the boundaries of photography and they both attempt to create enigmatic images that simultaneously re-affirm and breakdown such notions.

Steve Longbottom graduated from The University of Central Lancashire in June this year, and this early debut into the art scene shows his dedication and drive towards a promising career. Steve works in both digital and analogue formats exploring the presence and use of light within his work. His subjects are asked to donate an image that relates to a time or an event, this is then projected onto that person and both the subject and their image are photographed in darkness.
‘I find myself obsessed with the abstract and identify this quality in almost everything I photograph’… Steve Longbottom.

Fran Halsall graduated in 2001 from Interactive Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University. Since graduating she has spent time developing her practise and exhibiting regularly. Fran produces contemporary photography that is both alluring and conflicting. The viewer is given a small taste of an image and left to work out what it is. Fran uses long exposures to produce photographs that are glowing with luminescent colour; the imagery is almost ghost like and has a sense of something eerie about it whilst at the same time retaining an elegant beauty in the composition formed by colour and light.
