Little Artists Solo Exhibition
02.07.04 – 30.07.04

Tracey Emin approves The Little Artists’ latest sculpture

Returning from their hugely successful premier State side exhibition at Comme Ca NYC, The Little Artists quite literally continue their mini-adventures in Modern Art at Comme Ca Art’s Manchester Gallery.

The Little Artists have immortalized the great and maybe the not so good of the art world in un-manipulated Lego. Works have included, ‘Hirst’s Shark Tank’, ‘Marc Quinn’s Blood Head’ and ‘Koons’ Balls’ to name a few.

Tracey Emin notoriously exhibited My Bed (1998), complete with dirty sheets, bloody knickers and used condoms, when she was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1999.

The Little Artists interpretation of My Bed (1998) premiers at Comme Ca Art on the 2nd July 2004, featuring a recreation of Tracey Emin’s infamous Turner Prize entry, accompanied by a figure of the artist. Having seen a sneak preview of the sculpture, Emin has reacted positively to the work and thinks, apart from the ‘tidy’ pillows, that the work is great.

The Little Artists pride themselves on the seriousness of their hybrids and the acknowledgment to the correct portrayal of the artworks through the properties governed by Lego. They clearly understand the possibilities presented to them within the medium of Lego, and where the boundaries lie with respect to the culture of Lego, one of learning, creativity and stimulation. The results may be humorous and highly convincing and have not only left children, but also adults genuinely intrigued, belying the initial infantile appearance of the work.

‘Emin’s Bed’ will be available from the 1st September 2004, though Collectors will be able to reserve a limited edition ‘Emin’s Bed’ at the preview.

Alongside ‘Emin’s Bed’, The Little Artists are showcasing their latest work, ‘Taking a line for a drive’, transforming Paul Klee’s notion of taking a line for a walk. The Little Artists will create a brand new site-specific installation that circumnavigates the gallery space with a series of interlinked Scalextric tracks. The installation will appear to generate a seemingly chaotic line drawing through the mass of Scalextric tracks. Two Mini Cooper model cars will travel around each line keeping this unique drawing in a state of perpetual motion.

‘Taking a line for a drive’ will be open from Tuesday 29th June, giving the public a chance to see The Little Artists in action installing this exciting new piece of work. The Little Artists will launch the Mini Cooper race on the evening of Friday 2nd July at an exclusive preview event.
