Antonio Claudio Carvalho ‘Things to take to Mars’
13.03.04 – 24.04.04

Antonio lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The artist has had successful exhibitions in Brazil and Europe and premiered in the States at Comme Ca NYC in March 2004.

“Antonio Claudio Carvalho, poet-historian of global art, proves himself to be a protagonist in the great debate on the current destiny of the image.”
Pierre Restany, Paris, 1st February 2003

Antonio, a self-confessed romantic, believes the painted canvas should bring emotion to the viewer. Emotions of sadness and joy are depicted through the artist’s use of text, with references to artists and writers. Using his handwriting as calligraphy, the images possess a beautiful rhythm of self-expression, compassion, humanity and the artist’s own sensitivity to changing peoples life through art.

“Art makes life better for anyone. You just have to be sensitive to it. It makes you think and anything that makes you think will change you. It’s a piece in the structure of the world. Art is life and life changes the world.”
Antonio Claudio Carvalho
