Even before graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2001 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Interactive Arts, Suzy Jones was busy negotiating exhibitions in the UK and for a recent graduate Suzy has already built an impressive CV of solo and group exhibitions, commissions and residencies.

Having cut her teeth on the Comme Ca Art alternative exhibition scene, Comme Ca director, Claire Turner, thinks the time is right for this emerging star of the North to be given the chance of a solo gallery exhibition so early in her career. "Suzy’s commitment to her work is staggering and the goal she has set herself for this exhibition shows her dedication and ambition for her artistic medium. I am sure this exhibition will help to raise the profile of this talented young artist."

200ml of Vanilla is an audience-based exhibition of new work. In her individual style, drawn from Japanese anime, the work looks into the artists personal perception of "The Super Flat" ideology of Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami. With the use of humour and an underlying theme of personal quirks, Suzy’s interactive paintings, sculpture and multi-media works aim to leave the viewer feeling in some way touched by something that they may not intirely understand.

Says Suzy; "The work is about things that I have current obsessions for, small every-day things that seem to shape the person that I am trying to market myself as. Things like drinking milkshakes, smelling like Vanilla or my obsession with Michael Jackson and earmuffs. I see myself as a New Tokyo Pop artist, but that is also just a new obsession that I have about my work right now."

There is a glimpse of the world that Suzy surrounds herself with and you as the viewer are invited to join her by producing a collaborative piece of work that will be on show alongside 200ml of Vanilla.

"I call the genre in which I work New Pop or Tokyo Pop. It groups together my interest in Japanese product design, popular culture and the almost inherent love of comics and gaming that you find in Japan as opposed to anywhere else. I find there is a different sort of vibrancy in Tokyo that you can not find in any other city in the world, what is considered to be 'geeky' in the UK is almost an expected part of youth culture in Japan. Being different is encouraged and being different is what makes for a more interesting popular culture." Suzy Jones
