Raymond Blanc’s award-winning Le Petit Blanc brasserie on King Street, Manchester teamed up with Comme Ca Art in May 2002 to launch a series of art exhibitions featuring some of the North West’s most up and coming artists.
The exhibitions allowed Raymond Blanc to combine his love of food with art. Monsieur Blanc was hopeful that the great relationship artists like Picasso and Cezanne had with restaurants, where the artist paid for meals with a sketch or painting, would return once again.... Maybe in a few years he will find himself with a masterpiece on his hands!
The exhibitions on display at Le Petit Blanc were selected to not only enhance the interior design of the restaurant but to stimulate the individual diner’s views of contemporary art and to add to the overall experience of dining at the brasserie. "A restaurant is intimately linked with the life and culture of a city and should reflect all the great talent of local artists. Le Petit Blanc did just that." Raymond Blanc
Le Petit Blanc’s layout served as a natural gallery, offering separate areas for exhibiting the individual artists’ collections, while the vast white walls acted as the perfect backdrop for contemporary works of art. Following the natural layout of the restaurant, the viewer could go on an artistic adventure, exploring sculpture, abstract painting, digital prints and large photorealist paintings.
The exhibitions proved to be a huge success for both Le Petit Blanc and the exhibiting artists.
