Q: How can I be
sure if I commission an artist I will like the end result?
A: Comme Ca Art works closely with both the artist and the
client on commissions. We make sure the client sees as much
of the artists previous work as possible. This helps
to the client get a sense of familiarity with the scale of
the works, the artists colour palette, the artists
style, etc. Whenever possible, we introduce the artist to
the client so they can discuss the commission in depth and
answer any questions the client may have and visa versa for
the artist.
Comme Ca asks the artist to create a scaled drawing or model.
This helps the client to see how the commission will look
once it is completed. The artist is only allowed to start
work on a commission once the customer is completely satisfied
with the preliminary sketches / models / materials / colours,
etc.
Q: How long will a commission take to
complete?
A: This really does depend on the artist in question and the
scale of the particular commission. To give you an idea, if
you were to commission an artist to paint a 122cm x 122cm,
(4ft square), oil on canvas painting it could take up to six
weeks including drying time. The same painting painted in
acrylic could take up to three weeks including drying time.
A sculpture commission could take anywhere from six weeks
to twelve weeks depending on ordering the correct materials
and equipment.
Comme Ca and the artist work out a schedule time table. This
includes a completion date and installation deadline, if agreed
with the client. A contract is drawn up by Comme Ca Art between
the artist and the client and Comme Ca meet with the artist
at regular intervals to make sure the all works are being
completed.
