RACHAEL ADDIS

Rachael's paintings are dynamic, highly tactile, flamboyant, cohesive, and show her remarkable talent for both blending and diversifying colour. She uses a variety of alternative and unconventional materials instead of paint brushes to build up layers of paint, which give a hint, of often spectacular landscapes, seascapes, built up areas, or weather patterns. Indeed, she often uses understated colours to create a sense of calm. Her teenage life in Asia, particularly in Thailand and Hong Kong is the influence often perceived in her work. Picture her on a Thai beach experimenting mixing paint, sand, fine coral, seaweed, and salt water to develop an extraordinarily colourful canvas!

Returning to the UK., and the Lake District in particular, her current work seeks to establish a contemplative and meditative aspect, both for the viewer and herself. As a contemporary painter she is based at Rogue Artists studios in Manchester.

Rachael gained a BA. (Hons), in Fine Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, and then progressed to the MA programme at The Royal Academy Schools, in London.

She is presently a Lecturer in Contemporary Art Practice at UCEN Manchester teaching Degree level students successfully. Following a break Rachael seriously took up painting again in 2018.
