The Art Exhibition collaboration between the Comme Ca Art and INNSiDE by Meliã Manchester sees the new exhibition opening at the hotel on Wednesday 6th July 2022 and with daily access from 10:00 - 22:00, there’s plenty of time to view the artworks on display.

The hotel’s commitment to local culture and alternative gallery venue pioneer Comme Ca Art sees the first floor level of the hotel transformed into an exhibition space displaying artworks by contemporary artists who have an affiliation with Manchester.

Rotating on a quarterly basis, Comme Ca Art bring both up and coming and established artists to the hotel. This second exhibition sees works by four local artists, who all have their own unique style of work:

Edward Aldon

Edward Aldon studied painting at Manchester University and graduated with a BA (hons) degree in Fine Art specialising in painting
in the early 1990's.

Since graduating he continued to develop his craft and passion for the seductive qualities of paint. He has exhibited in various group exhibitions and his works are in many private collections. Recently he has been able to achieve his life long ambition and dedicate all his time to painting, in particular, his passion for the beauty, atmosphere and moods of the varied British landscape.

Edward's aim is to express the fluidity of the ever changing landscape, capturing the emotive forces of colour, light, form, textures
and movement.

Using expressive techniques, demonstrating his love of oil paint and it's seductive qualities to capture the ever changing atmospheric beauty of the land.

Rebecca Davy

Rebecca Davy’s primary concern when creating her artworks is the act of painting itself. Her focus is on what she describes as “the seductiveness and sensuousness of pushing paint on canvas”. She is particularly attracted to painting the colourful, the ephemeral and the kitsch, constructing paintings with a strong element of light and colour that satisfies both the subject and its medium.

For her, sticky and colourful things such as sweets and icing are good subjects for the visceral qualities of paint. Bringing these two elements together produces a new realm between kitsch and the hyper real, paintings that flow into being from the artist’s imagination.

Rebecca Davy is a Manchester-based artist. Since completing her MA in Fine Art in 2006, she has taken part in exhibitions abroad, and featured in exhibitions in London and Liverpool.

Little Artists

The Little Artists' work explores the iconic, as they draw on figures and events in recent art history in an attempt to understand the significance of art and the culture that creates it. Their use of playful and irreverent materials makes their work accessible and enjoyable, but is also intended to explore more complex issues.

The Little Artists attempt to make clear the status of artist as brand and artwork as merchandise, investigating complex issues of process, identity, authorship, branding, and art’s relationship to consumerism.

Thomas Wolski

Tom’s illustrated works of delicately detailed, yet iconic bold silhouettes, is a signature and instantly distinguishable style. His recognisable outlines draw you in and incite your curiosity. Once captured, the artworks tease your eyes to reveal the delights of the ‘filling’ – intricate lines, magical worlds, and hidden treasures.

Nostalgic objects or figures that have been collected over an age provide the source of inspiration. Tom’s mantra is “always say yes” and try new things. His works are derived from the memories provoked by these experiences and the association with the iconography that triggers the memory. Famous brands with significant history therefore take a prominent position in his work.
