Gallery director, Claire Turner has curated the exhibition to highlight how different art styles can work together. "My own collection of art is quite eclectic. I love walking from room to room in my house and seeing how the artworks, whilst very different in style, work in harmony together."
Comme Ca Art offer a hanging service so if you have artworks you would like to be hung in your home or work environment or, you are interested in starting your own art collection, contact Comme Ca Art for more details.
BIG H
Whilst studying Graphics Design in College and Fine Art at University BIG H was influenced by Pop / Graffiti and Traditional Fine Art. BIG H’s art is mainly a mixture of graffiti and pop art with popular culture his subject matter. His art often satirises current issues in society such as celebrity culture, power and commercialism. With his art he wants to arouse the senses and stir the spirit and to visually stimulate the observer through strong images, colour, patterns and words. He often enjoys the look and feel of tight and accurate geometric lines mixed with strong vibrant colours and bold patterns surrounding a central figure from the world of popular culture.
REBECCA DAVY
Rebecca Davy’s primary concern when creating her artworks is the act of painting itself. Her focus is on what she describes as “the seductiveness and sensuousness of pushing paint on canvas”. She is particularly attracted to painting the colourful, the ephemeral and the kitsch, constructing paintings with a strong element of light and colour that satisfies both the subject and its medium.
SIAN ELIZABETH
Sian Elizabeth's large scale, strikingly beautiful abstract paintings lend themselves to her past as a textile designer and her new found love of colour. “I love to look at and study layers and light. The majority of my previous work, even private commissions were drenched in black and grey tones and I found it quite painful to paint clean bright colours. I also painted very freely and wild with flicks, splashes and fast brush strokes. A calmer brighter approach is now a great passion." Sian Elizabeth
ROB LENIHAN
Rob Lenihan produces art in a variety of forms and materials ranging from porcelain and resin to mixed media on canvas. He has a long history of producing in an urban aesthetic having started his creative journey as a graffiti artist in the mid 80’s. He then went on to study fine art and his work is layered with influences from several genres of art.
The content of his work deals with the transition between youth and adulthood and the challenges faced straddling both worlds simultaneously. He sees this transition as the catalyst for facing big life questions of existence and purpose and using multiple visual layers he is able to manifest powerful narratives underpinned by his own lived experience.
LITTLE ARTISTS
The Little Artists are renowned for their use of Lego, depicting famous artists works in this medium of choice. The artwork in exhibition depicts American artist, Jeff Loons and his famous artwork, 'Two Ball Total Equilibrium Tank (Spalding Dr. J Silver Series, Wilson Aggresor)'.
machOne
"Graffiti is the core influence of my style and having been a graffiti writer since the 1980's, it is ingrained in my work. SprayPaint being my weapon of choice, incorporating my 'signature' where and whenever possible, paint drips and splatter, soft fades and bold colour choices but the 'soft' medium is contrasted by the influence of clean pop art, comic art, in particular Marvel and DC but Manara also. My original line art, provocative looks and suggestion, the use of text for impact." machOne
OLGA MUN
Olga Mun is a figurative abstract painter currently residing and studying for her MA in Fine Art at The University of Salford. She recently won the prestigious AXA Art Prize UK 2023, where she was awarded £10,000 for her outstanding figurative art piece titled "IMPOSSIBLE PAINTING" (Cat no.62). The prize was awarded by a panel of judges including Jennifer Schipf, Mark Hampson, and Rachel Hobkirk, recognising her exceptional talent and contribution to contemporary art.
"My painting practice explores the vastness of the human condition, often this story and the intention of work is a consistent essence on one canvas. I convey my thoughts about humanity with such a depth that it causes an internal study of life, the environment, history and human activity and interaction. The work isn’t purely figurative, it plays with abstraction. It uses elements like almost abstract figures, transformative forms, gestural strokes, and infinite colour blending for each shape represented." Olga Mun
ALAN YAFFE
When Alan takes hold of a blank canvas, there’s an excitement that’s hard to explain. The creative possibilities are infinite and, for Alan, abstraction offers up all those possibilities. HIs creativity is not bound by the real world and, quite often, not even by his imagination. Sometimes he paints in a planned manner, knowing, at the start, what will or won’t work. But often, he doesn’t begin with a clear idea. The beauty of applying paint to canvas is that Alan is able to let the image develop as he builds up the composition with layers, texture and colour until arriving at an end point… a finished painting. That end point often takes Alan by surprise in an amazing & uplifting way.
The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 - 22:00 and is on the first floor of the Lowry Hotel.
